Language is supposed to free you, I think. This is what I have learned as a writer. So she says what's on her mind to me. When we see each other, she reminds me of my debts and frees herself a little more. She writes out loud, and I remember her words, as dutiful as a scrap of paper, another word for child, for eternity only as far as she can see.
